Warewulf Pro 1.3.1 (Sep 2026)

Released 2026-09-24.

Changes

  • Added support for RLC Pro node images for RLC Pro 9.6 (LTS), 9 (rolling), and 10 (rolling). These are compact, Warewulf-bootable compute images built on CIQ's RLC Pro bases and published as multi-arch (x86_64 and aarch64) manifests, and are available with an RLC Pro license.
  • The new RLC Pro node images support opt-in two-stage (Dracut) boot: they bundle the dependencies needed to install the warewulf-dracut module into the image, so nodes can boot via a generic Dracut initramfs.
  • Fixed a two-stage (Dracut) boot regression on Enterprise Linux 8 compute nodes, caused by a shell-compatibility issue in the Warewulf Dracut module. Warewulf Pro carries this fix ahead of its inclusion in an upstream Warewulf release.
  • Updates Warewulf to v4.7.1. This is a bugfix release in the v4.7.x series. Warewulf changes include:
    • wwctl power no longer falls back to the local BMC for nodes that have no IPMI address configured, which could otherwise power off the Warewulf server itself.
    • wwclient is now pinned to the baseline x86_64 microarchitecture upstream — the same protection Warewulf Pro already applied in v1.3.0 — so it runs on older CPUs without an illegal-instruction failure.
    • Fixes for IPv6-only servers and nodes, covering Dracut boot, wwctl node status, dnsmasq, and NetworkManager.
    • Prevented image and overlay corruption caused by 64-bit inode numbers being truncated in cpio.
    • Corrected kernel version detection for kernels whose release carries a version-like suffix after the distribution tag.
    • Removed dsa from the default ssh: key types, which could otherwise leave EL9 nodes without a usable host key.
    • Mounts non-root filesystems before image extraction during provision-to-disk.
    • Overlay template fixes for parent directories and symbolic links.
    • Dependency updates, including go-jose 4.1.4 for CVE-2026-34986.
  • Updates Apptainer to v1.5.4 (from v1.5.3), a security release that fixes a high-severity vulnerability.
