CIQ Depot

CIQ Depot provides public and private products and repositories to customers of CIQ. The central portal for accessing RLC installation media, updates, and enterprise repositories.

Rocky Linux from CIQ (RLC)

The commercially-backed version of Rocky Linux that provides the same open source operating system with enterprise guarantees, service level objectives, and indemnification.

Service Level Objectives (SLO)

Committed performance targets for RLC services, including security patch delivery within 30 days and repository availability guarantees.

Supply Chain Validation

The process by which CIQ verifies and validates all packages in RLC repositories to ensure integrity and security of the software supply chain.

Indemnification

Legal protection provided by CIQ to RLC customers against claims of intellectual property infringement related to the use of open source software.

Enterprise Linux

A class of Linux distributions designed for business and enterprise use, typically offering long-term support, stability, and commercial backing.

RHEL Compatibility

Binary and API compatibility with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, ensuring that applications and configurations work identically across both platforms.

ISO

An ISO file is an archive image of an optical disc, such as a CD or DVD, that contains all the necessary installation files for the Linux distribution.

DNF

Dandified YUM (DNF) is the package manager used by Rocky Linux and RLC for installing, updating, and managing software packages.

Repository

A storage location containing software packages and metadata that can be accessed by package managers for software installation and updates.

RPM

Red Hat Package Manager - the package format used by RLC and other Enterprise Linux distributions for software distribution.

Subscription

A commercial agreement with CIQ that provides access to RLC repositories, support services, and enterprise features.

Migration

The process of transitioning from community Rocky Linux or other distributions to RLC while preserving data and configurations.

GPG Key

GNU Privacy Guard cryptographic keys used to verify the authenticity and integrity of software packages in RLC repositories.

Checksum

A cryptographic hash (typically SHA256) used to verify the integrity of downloaded files, ensuring they have not been corrupted or tampered with.

Depot Token

Authentication credential provided by CIQ for accessing private repositories and enterprise features in CIQ Depot.

LTS (Long Term Support)

Extended support lifecycle for specific versions of RLC, providing security updates and critical fixes for extended periods.

CVE (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures)

Standardized identifiers for known security vulnerabilities that are tracked and patched in RLC security updates.

Fast Track Repository

Special CIQ repository containing urgent security patches and critical updates delivered ahead of regular update cycles when needed to meet SLOs.

CIQ Extras Repository

Additional repository provided with RLC containing useful tools, migration scripts, and supplementary packages not found in standard repositories.

Package Validation

The process of cryptographic verification performed by CIQ to ensure all packages in RLC repositories are authentic and unmodified.

Commercial Guarantee

Business-level commitments provided by CIQ for RLC services, including support response times, security update delivery, and system availability.

Enterprise Repository

Commercial-grade software repositories managed by CIQ with guaranteed availability, performance, and support.

Egress Limit

Annual data transfer limit for RLC subscriptions (typically 10TB), after which customers engage with CIQ for additional capacity options.

Multi-Cloud Licensing

RLC licensing model that allows deployment across multiple cloud platforms and on-premise environments with a single subscription.

Bug-for-Bug Compatibility

Complete compatibility with upstream Enterprise Linux, including reproduction of non-critical behaviors to ensure identical application behavior.

RESF (Rocky Enterprise Software Foundation)

The non-profit organization behind the Rocky Linux community project, which CIQ sponsors and contributes to.

Mirror

Geographically distributed repository servers that provide local access to RLC packages for improved download performance and reliability.
